On December 4, 2021, a bus carrying Catholic choir members who were travelling to a wedding in central Kenya was swept off a bridge into the flooded Enziu river. The accident claimed the lives of at least 23 people, including four children, and left 12 survivors. The driver was reportedly unfamiliar with the route and attempted to cross the fast-flowing water over the bridge in Mwingi, Kitui county.
