Komi-san wa, Comyushou desu. 2nd Season Episode 1 Review: A New Friend and a New Challenge

Komi-san wa, Comyushou desu. (Komi Can’t Communicate) is a comedy anime based on the manga of the same name by Tomohito Oda. It follows the story of Shouko Komi, a beautiful and popular girl who suffers from a severe communication disorder, and Hitohito Tadano, a plain and average boy who becomes her first friend and helps her achieve her goal of making 100 friends.

The second season of the anime premiered on April 7, 2022, and continues the adventures of Komi and Tadano as they meet new classmates and face new challenges. The first episode introduces Makoto Katai, a delinquent-looking student who has been absent since the first week of school. Despite his scary appearance, Katai is actually a timid and kind person who has trouble talking to others. He admires Komi from afar and wishes to befriend her, but he is too nervous to approach her.

The episode also shows how Komi and Tadano’s relationship has changed since the cultural festival, where they shared a dance and a hug. They are more aware of their feelings for each other, but they are also more awkward and embarrassed around each other. They try to act normally, but they often blush and stutter when they talk. Their friends notice their behavior and tease them about it.

The episode is full of funny and heartwarming moments, such as Komi’s attempts to communicate with Katai using gestures and notes, Tadano’s efforts to help Katai overcome his shyness, and Katai’s reactions to Komi’s kindness and beauty. The episode also showcases the diverse and quirky personalities of Komi’s friends, such as Najimi Osana, the genderless troublemaker who knows everyone; Kaede Otori, the sadistic girl who loves torturing Tadano; Nene Onemine, the cheerful girl who works part-time at a maid cafe; and Chuusaku Kometani, the boy who has a crush on Komi but always gets ignored.

The episode ends with a cliffhanger, as Katai finally gathers his courage to ask Komi to be his friend. However, before she can answer, Tadano interrupts them and asks what they are doing. How will Komi respond to Katai’s request? How will Tadano react to their conversation? Will Katai become Komi’s 15th friend?

Komi-san wa, Comyushou desu. 2nd Season Episode 1 is a great start for the new season of the anime. It introduces a new character who adds more humor and drama to the story, and it develops the main characters’ feelings and relationships. The animation and voice acting are also well-done, capturing the expressions and emotions of the characters. The episode is a delight for fans of the manga and newcomers alike.

The second episode of Komi-san wa, Comyushou desu. 2nd Season follows the aftermath of Katai’s confession to Komi. Komi is surprised and flustered by his request, but she also feels happy that someone wants to be her friend. She tries to answer him, but she can’t find the words to express herself. Tadano, who has witnessed the scene, misunderstands the situation and thinks that Katai is confessing his love to Komi. He feels jealous and hurt, but he also wants to support Komi’s happiness. He decides to leave them alone and walks away.

Katai notices Tadano’s departure and realizes that he has made a mistake. He apologizes to Komi and explains that he only wanted to be her friend, not her boyfriend. He also tells her that he admires her for being able to make so many friends despite her communication disorder. He reveals that he has a similar problem, and that he has been avoiding school because he was afraid of being rejected by his classmates. He says that he wants to change himself and become more sociable, just like Komi.

Komi feels relieved and touched by Katai’s words. She understands his feelings and relates to his struggles. She decides to accept his friendship and writes “Yes” on a piece of paper. She then smiles and holds out her hand to him. Katai is overjoyed and shakes her hand enthusiastically. He thanks her for being his friend and promises to do his best to talk to her and others.

Meanwhile, Tadano is wandering around the school, feeling depressed and conflicted. He wonders if he should have stayed with Komi and Katai, or if he should have confessed his own feelings to Komi. He also wonders if Komi likes Katai more than him, or if she even likes him at all. He thinks that he is not good enough for Komi, and that he should let her go.

However, as he walks, he encounters several of Komi’s friends, who greet him warmly and invite him to join them. They tell him how much they appreciate him for being Komi’s first friend and helping her make more friends. They also tell him how much Komi likes him and trusts him. They say that they can see that Komi and Tadano have a special bond, and that they are rooting for them.

Tadano is surprised and moved by their words. He realizes that he is not alone, and that he has many friends who care about him and support him. He also realizes that he still loves Komi, and that he doesn’t want to give up on her. He decides to go back to Komi and Katai, and tell them how he feels.

He runs back to the classroom where they are waiting for him. He sees them sitting together on a desk, talking and laughing. He feels a pang of jealousy, but he also feels happy for them. He approaches them and calls their names. They turn around and smile at him.

He takes a deep breath and says: “Komi-san, Katai-kun… I have something to tell you.”
