How to Install MVCI Driver for Toyota-Cable 2.0.1 on Windows 10

If you have a Mini VCI cable and want to use it with Toyota Techstream software, you may encounter some compatibility issues on Windows 10 64-bit system. This article will show you how to install the MVCI driver for Toyota-Cable 2.0.1 on your computer and make it work with Techstream.

What You Need

  • A Mini VCI cable with firmware 1.4.1 or higher (you can check the firmware version using the MVCI Firmware Update Tool)
  • Toyota Techstream software (any version should work, but this guide is based on version 14.20.019)
  • The MVCI driver for Toyota-Cable 2.0.1 file (you can download it from here or use the one from your Mini VCI CD)
  • A Windows 10 64-bit computer with administrator rights

Step 1: Install Techstream Software


What You Need

Run the Techstream setup file and follow the instructions to install the software on your computer. You can choose any language and enter any user name and company name. When the installation is finished, click Finish to exit.

Step 2: Install MVCI Driver for Toyota-Cable 2.0.1

Extract the MVCI driver file and open the driver folder. Run the MVCI Driver for Toyota Cable 2.0.1.msi file and click Install to install the driver on your computer. When the installation is finished, click Finish to exit.

Step 3: Copy FirmwareUpdateTool and MVCI32.dll Files


Step 2: Install MVCI Driver for Toyota-Cable 2.0.1

Open the folder where you installed the Techstream software (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Toyota Diagnostics\Techstream\bin) and create a new folder named XHorse Electronics inside it. Then create another folder named MVCI Driver for TOYOTA TIS inside the XHorse Electronics folder.

Copy the FirmwareUpdateTool.exe and MVCI32.dll files from the driver folder to the MVCI Driver for TOYOTA TIS folder. These files are necessary for Techstream to communicate with the Mini VCI cable.

Step 4: Update Device Drivers

Plug in your Mini VCI cable to your computer and wait for Windows to recognize it and load the drivers. If Windows does not load the drivers automatically, you can manually update them using the Device Manager.

Open the Device Manager and find the device named USB Serial Port under Ports (COM & LPT). Right-click on it and select Update driver. Choose Browse my computer for driver software and then Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.

Select USB Serial Port from the list and click Next. Then click Have Disk and browse to the ftdibus folder in the driver folder. Select the ftdibus.inf file and click Open. Click OK and then Next to install the driver.

Repeat the same steps for another device named USB Serial Converter under Universal Serial Bus controllers, but this time browse to the ftdiport folder in the driver folder and select the ftdiport.inf file.

The device drivers should be updated to version 2.6.0.0 after this process.

Open the Techstream software on your desktop and click Cancel if it asks you to enter an activation key. Then go to Setup tab and select VIM Select from the menu.

Select Xhorse MVCI as the interface type and click OK. Then close the Techstream software.

Right-click on the Techstream shortcut on your desktop and select Properties. In the Target field, replace MainMenu.exe with Techstream.exe”/395070/VM:1 (including the quotation marks). Then click Apply and OK.
